Several ways of dealing with negative emotions
While emotions are part of our daily life, we are usually not taught how do deal with them in a healthy way. Here are possible ways to deal with negative emotions.
Repressing
Negative emotions are not expressed and stored in the body. We tend to do that when we prefer to hurt ourselves instead of others, or when we fear what others may think about us. We pretend that everything is fine and we deny our emotions.
When emotions are denied, they move from the conscious part to the subconscious part of us. If this attitude becomes a habit, it can cause dis-eases in the mind and the body.
Expressing
Negative emotions are expressed and we can hurt people through our words and actions. The current emotional charge is released but the belief causing it in the first place is still there.
If a similar situation happens, the same emotional reaction will be experienced. In general, expressing negative emotions with a strong charge is not really productive and we may regret what we did or said afterwards.
Releasing
Releasing negative emotions is a less known option in which we take full responsability for our emotions and use our free will. When negative emotions arise, we have the choice to consciously let go of it. Doing so releases the emotional charge as well as the belief system causing it.
With practice, it becomes easier to stay calm and peaceful no matter what happens around us. Negative emotional triggers are progressively dissolved.
Let us explore more in depth what is letting go.
Letting go
Letting go means accepting to feel in our body the negative feelings while staying opened at the energy level.
The action of letting go only applies to feelings. It is not about separating from people or objects. Actually, the feeling we get when being in a letting go state is not one of a loss but one of a gain.
Technique
Here is a meditation giving the ability to let go at will.
- Adopt a comfortable position (seating in a chair or lying down in bed).
- Close your eyes and become aware of your body (how does your body feel?).
- Imagine an opened windows in front of you and become aware of the feeling of openness and space connected to it.
- Simultaneously maintain the awareness of the feelings coming from your body and the opened window. You are in the letting go state when you maintain this dual awareness.
- Stay in the letting go state as long as you want. It is recommended to keep practising until you start feeling lighter and more relaxed.
In this technique, what matters are the feelings. Visualization is used as a tool to access feelings.
With practice, this technique can be used anywhere and anytime. It can be done eyes opened too. The letting go state becomes your new state of being!
Benefits
During each session, you will feel lighter and more relaxed. The ability to let go grows with practice. At the beginner level, it may take a few hours to let go of negative emotions with a strong charge. At the intermediate level, one hour will be enough to dissolve most of the negative emotions. At the advanced level, about 15-20 minutes should be enough.
The effects of this technique are systematic, cumulative and permanent. The benefits may be subtle at the begining, but they become more and more obvious with a regular practice.
To reap the benefits of your practice faster, activate your ability to let go with an initiation! You can also experience the energy of letting go by listening to a silent energy transmission.
